Weston Road Pentecostal Church Welcomes Government of Canada Ministers to Town Hall Meeting “The Persecuted Church”
Toronto -- The Honorable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism (Calgary-South East) and The Honorable Julian Fantino, Minister Responsible for Seniors (Vaughan) attended a Town Hall Meeting entitled The Persecuted Church” on Friday, March 18, 2011, hosted by Weston Road Pentecostal Church.
The evening featured powerful testimonies from family members of assassinated Christian Pakistani Leader, Shahbaz Bhatti as well as members of the Pakistani community who spoke of their journeys as Christians escaping the grip of religious oppression. The crowd was brought to tears as they listened to accounts of injustice under the Pakistani Government’s Blasphemy Laws.
The Town Hall meeting drew people from diverse ethnic backgrounds who were keen to share their experiences and implore the Canadian Government to support persecuted Christians living in Pakistan and other parts of the world.
Minister Kenney and Minister Fantino asked for input as they look at how the Canadian Government might influence the Pakistani Government to change these oppressive laws. The Ministers also offered their sincerest support to stand by the Canadian tradition of upholding human rights and cited Canada’s historic roles in sheltering those under persecution.
